The Research and Development Committee aims to establish the ACSConsortium of Accredited Education Institutes as the leader in simulation-based research that promotes improvements in surgeon performance and patient outcomes. The mission of the committee is to inspire and nurture research and innovation in healthcare simulation.

Activities

• Benchmark Project: The Research and Development Committee is conducting a multi-site pilot feasibility study to collect assessment data on the performance of selected technical and non-technical skills performed by surgery residents in a simulation setting. The study aims to identify performance benchmarks using assessment instruments with the highest validity evidence.聽
• AEI Research Collaborative Webinar: Since 2020, the Research and Development Committee has been coordinating a webinar series that invites surgical simulation researchers to share their research. The webinar series promotes multi-site collaboration to strengthen the research projects presented.

Resources

The Research and Development Committee developed the ACSPrinciples and Practice for Simulation & Surgical Education Research, published in 2014. This publication aims to provide a one-stop, user-focused simulation and surgical education research manual.
