Advocacy

Å˽ðÁ«´«Ã½Ó³»PA-SurgeonsPAC

A strong, united voice for surgery is essential to effective advocacy. That's why the ACSProfessional Association (Å˽ðÁ«´«Ã½Ó³»PA) political action committee, Å˽ðÁ«´«Ã½Ó³»PA-SurgeonsPAC, promotes access to the highest-quality surgical resources for patients and surgeons every day. The Å˽ðÁ«´«Ã½Ó³»PA-SurgeonsPAC is governed by an appointed Board of Directors including Fellows, Young Fellows, Associate Fellows, and Residents representing numerous specialties.

Since 2002, SurgeonsPAC has been committed to:

  • Educating and partnering with federal policymakers who share our goal of protecting patient access to high-quality surgical care.
  • Supporting congressional candidates—particularly fellow health care professionals—who can best educate and engage their colleagues about important surgical advocacy priorities.
  • Upholding the highest ethical and nonpartisan standards in contributing to individuals who support excellence in surgical care, and exhibit professionalism when advocating on behalf of surgery.

About Å˽ðÁ«´«Ã½Ó³»PA

In 2001, ACSleadership voted unanimously to establish the Å˽ðÁ«´«Ã½Ó³»PA, a 501c(6) affiliated corporation offering a broader range of activities and services benefiting surgeons and patients, including an expanded legislative advocacy program featuring a political action committee. The formation of the 501c(6) ensures that the College can maintain the standard-setting education and credentialing efforts that remain at the core of its mission while leveraging important advocacy and health policy priorities. A Note About Membership Dues

Annual dues dollars are not used to fund or support the College’s political activities. All political efforts are financed through voluntary, personal contributions from Å˽ðÁ«´«Ã½Ó³»PA members made directly to the Å˽ðÁ«´«Ã½Ó³»PA-SurgeonsPAC. A small portion of dues receipts, typically 3 to 5 percent, are retained by the Å˽ðÁ«´«Ã½Ó³»PA to finance the legislative advocacy program, and as a result, are not deductible from federal income taxes as a business expense. Additional information is listed on the annual dues statement.
