The call for abstracts and videos for Clinical Congress 2025, October 4-7, in Chicago, IL, is open until March 3, 2025 at 1:00 pm CT. Start submitting abstracts and videos today!

Learn directly from the ACSScientific Forum Committee about the key elements committee members look for when reviewing abstracts and building sessions for the ACSClinical Congress each year. Anyone interested in submitting work for the 2025 Call for Abstracts is encouraged to view this webinar.

Abstracts or videos may be submitted for the following Clinical Congress programs:

Owen H. Wangensteen Scientific Forum

The Owen H. Wangensteen Scientific Forum offers researchers the opportunity to present the results of their original, basic science, clinical, education, health sciences, and translational research.

Who Should Submit an Abstract?
  • Surgeons and scientific investigators of all levels
  • Surgical residents
  • Medical students

International submissions are encouraged. Subspecialty (Neurosurgery, OB-Gyn, Ophthalmology, Orthopedic Surgery, Otolaryngology, and Urology) submissions are also encouraged, with two awards for top scoring abstracts from this category.

For 2025, The Scientific Forum Committee requests abstracts related to the application of artificial intelligence (AI) in medicine (machine learning, large language models, natural language processing, etc.) for an interdisciplinary session on the use of AI in surgery. Authors may submit abstracts in any category, then opt in to be considered for the AI session in the final step of the submission process.

What Should Be Submitted?

A 250-maximum word abstract that presents a concise summary of hypothesis-testing research—either completed or in progress—which has not been presented elsewhere or previously accepted for publication. Case reports will not be accepted and will be removed from the Committee’s review. Revisions are not accepted after the deadline, including changes to the author/co-author order.

Accepted abstracts will be selected for ONE in-person presentation:

  • Oral presentation: 8-minute presentation within Scientific Forum sessions
  • Quick-shot presentation: 3-minute presentation within Scientific Forum sessions
  • ePoster: 3-minute presentation within the ePoster sessions

Submitters should designate at the time of submission which of the presentation methods they prefer for presenting their research at Clinical Congress (if their abstracts are accepted).

Publication

Accepted abstracts will be published in a supplemental issue of theÌýJournal of the Å˽ðÁ«´«Ã½Ó³»­Ìý(JÅ˽ðÁ«´«Ã½Ó³»­).

Top-scoring abstracts will be invited via email to submit a full manuscript to JACSfor expedited review. Manuscripts accepted during the expedited review process will be published in a special edition of JÅ˽ðÁ«´«Ã½Ó³»­. If you are invited to submit a manuscript for expedited review, you will receive an invitation in May with a submission deadline of July 1.

Video-Based Education Sessions

The Video-Based Education Sessions aims to educate surgeons and members of surgical teams in order to improve the care of the surgical patient, as well as safeguard the standards of care in an optimal practice environment.

Who Should Submit a Video?
  • Surgeons
  • Surgical residents
What Should Be Submitted?

A video that is a maximum of 10 minutes and narrated in English.ÌýThe video must be compliant with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).ÌýIn addition to the video, an abstract must be submitted. The abstract requires a 250-maximum word summary of the surgical case being presented, five keywords related to your video, and one educational or technical point addressed by the video.

Notifications will be sent by June 1, 2025. Please make sure to add Ìýto your approved senders list.

Publication

Accepted videos will become a part of the ACSVideo Library with the author’s consent.

History of Surgery Poster Session

The History of Surgery Poster Session, sponsored by the History and Archives Committee of the Å˽ðÁ«´«Ã½Ó³»­, offers surgical history enthusiasts the opportunity to present on their subject of interest relating to the diseases, techniques, technology, events, or personalities of particular importance to the field of surgery and its subspecialties.

Who Should Submit a Poster?
  • Medical students
  • Surgical residents
  • Surgeons of all levels
What Should Be Submitted?

A 500-maximum word abstract that presents a concise summary of the historical topic being presented. Abstracts should include a layout of the historical context or background of the topic, a narrative describing the key elements of the historical subject(s) being presented, and an explanation of the significance of the topic to the history of surgery.

Presentation

24 abstracts will be selected for in-person poster presentation at the ACSClinical Congress. Successful in-person presenters will need to be available from 9:45 am–12:45 pm on Sunday, October 5 to present their poster to the judging panel.

In addition, around 50 abstracts that did not make the in-person poster session cut will be chosen to display their poster as an ePoster at Clinical Congress. Please note there is no presentation or competition aspect to the ePoster session.

March 3, 2025, 1:00 pm CT

Notifications will be sent via email to the first author listed in the abstract no later than May 19.

In-Person Poster Competition Awards

Authors of the winning posters will receive a winner's plaque and will be invited to submit a paper on their topic for inclusion in a future issue of the Bulletin of the Å˽ðÁ«´«Ã½Ó³»­.
